چکیده

whose empiric formula is C6H12O6 • H2O, and whose molecular weight is 198.17. Nitroglycerin in 5% Dextrose Injection is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution of nitroglycerin and dextrose in water for injection. The solution is clear and practically colorless. Each 100 mL contains 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg nitroglycerin (added as Diluted Nitroglycerin, USP with propylene glycol); 5 g Dextrose Hydrous, USP; 0.84 mL Alcohol, USP (added as a dissolution aid); and 105 mg Citric Acid Hydrous, USP (added as a buffer). The pH of the solution is adjusted with sodium hydroxide and, if necessary, hydrochloric acid. Although dry nitroglycerin is explosive, nitroglycerin in 5% dextrose is not. Composition, osmolarity and pH are given in Table 1.

THERAPY AND PREVENTION PHARMACOLOGY Potentiation of nitroglycerin-induced coronary dilatation by N-acetylcysteine

Previous studies have suggested that (1) nitroglycerin causes vasodilatation by interacting with sulfhydryl groups in vascular smooth muscle, thereby activating guanylate cyclase and increasing the intracellular concentration of cyclic GMP, and (2) N-acetylcysteine, a source of sulfhydryl groups, potentiates the peripheral vasodilatory effect of nitroglycerin. This study was performed to explor...

Effects of nitroglycerin on liquid gastric emptying and antropyloroduodenal motility.

The effects of the nitric oxide donor nitroglycerin on gastric emptying and antropyloroduodenal motility were evaluated in nine healthy male subjects (ages 19-36 yr). Antropyloroduodenal pressures were recorded with a manometric assembly that had nine side holes spanning the antrum and proximal duodenum and a pyloric sleeve sensor; gastric emptying was quantified scintigraphically. In each subj...

Potentiation of the hemodynamic effects of acutely administered nitroglycerin by methionine.

It is believed that nitroglycerin causes vasodilatation by interacting with sulfhydryl groups present in vascular smooth muscle. This study was performed to assess whether methionine, an amino acid capable of increasing sulfhydryl availability, would potentiate the hemodynamic effects of nitroglycerin. Nitroglycerin was initially infused in incremental doses from 1 to 50 micrograms/min in all p...
